THE FRIENDLY RIVER TOWN

Charlton is located in North Central Victoria on the Calder Highway midway between Melbourne and Mildura, within the Buloke Shire. It is situated in the valley of the Avoca River in the last of the foothills of the Victorian highlands. Charlton welcomes visitors to the town and invites all to stay awhile and enjoy the river's natural beauty, our heritage style buildings and the town's friendly hospitality.

Golden Grains Museum

GOLDEN GRAINS MUSEUM

Showcases a diverse collection of over
3000 artefacts and photographs from
Charlton's early pioneer days through to
today. Open on Sundays and by
appointment (0418 361 971).
Avoca Walking Track

AVOCA RIVER WALKING TRACK

Starting from the Traveller's Rest, this sealed track is 500 metres long with interpretive signage of local birdlife. Also see the 'big fish' a memento of the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the swagman by chainsaw carver, Kevin Guilders.

Charlton weir, built in 1984, is located
1km north of the town just past Charlton Park on the Calder Hwy.

Located in the Elliott Gardens (south of
the bridge), the statue and plaques tell
the story of his life.

MT. DOOBOOETIC LOOKOUT

1km from the town centre, turn left onto the Back Teddywaddy Road (opposite Charlton Park). Dry weather road only.
Avoca River Water Marks

AVOCA RIVER

The picturesque Avoca River can be viewed from the viewing platform in the Traveller’s Rest. There is a record there of the floods that have occurred in Charlton. This area is currently undergoing a major redevelopment including wall art. The whole of the river front is also being upgraded and improved and will become a spectacular feature of the town.
Bill's Trough

HISTORIC BILLS' TROUGH

Constructed in 1931 by local builder Sam O'Brien with funds from the Bills' Trust. Turn into Kaye St next to the Tyre Service. Travel to the end of Kaye St and turn left into Wright St. Located several metres from the corner.
Chartsec Charlton

CHARTSEC ( Charlton Traffic Safety Education Centre)

CHARTSEC is an off-road driver education facility that provides pre-driver education to Year 9-12 students that come from as far away as Melbourne, Apollo Bay, Kaniva, Swan Hill and Nathalia and many schools within that radius.
North Central Trade Training

NORTH CENTRAL TRADE TRAINING CENTRE

Located at Charlton P-12 College, the NCTTC provides VET and VCAL programs for students from Charlton, Donald, St Arnaud, Wycheproof, Wedderburn, Boort and Pyramid Hill schools.
